Ponder....Ebola, Ferguson, Luke 2

Ponder

“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Luke. 2:19

With sleigh bells ringing and Cyber Monday sales chachinging, disruptions often trump pondering in December. Pondering requires intention.  Here are some of my favorite ways to “ponder” in December.
  1. Exercise Exercise time, besides refreshing physically, can refresh spiritually! Ponder while exercising: pray, memorize a favorite bible verse, or listen to God’s Word on your phone with the bible app.  This Christmas season, take time to walk around the block several times or take an extra lap or two around the mall while out shopping and ponder.
  2. Rest In the morning while still in bed or in the middle of the day when the sun is streaming in the window, I love to pause and ponder by praying for people I sent Christmas cards to or reading my Advent devotion.  This Christmas season take time to rest.
  3. Worship During mid-week advent services or Sunday church services, God’s Word comes to me in the readings, sermons, and music allowing me to ponder. This Christmas season take time to worship.

Besides purchasing the perfect presents, there is much to think about this December: ebola, Ferguson, ISIS, and closer to home, toddlers, teen-agers, exams, bills. The list is endless. Like Mary, we can ponder the events of Luke 2!  This Christmas season may you ponder this message, “Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10
Ponder this: a Savior for all people.  A Savior, for you!
